October 2026 Patch Tuesday: 1,411 Vulnerabilities and an Exploited Zero-Day

Microsoft’s October 2026 Patch Tuesday addresses a record 1,411 vulnerabilities, 46% more than September. Among them are 70 Critical flaws and three zero-days. One, CVE-2026-96951, is already being exploited to bypass Windows Mark of the Web protections, making it an immediate patching priority.

With 57 Critical vulnerabilities allowing remote code execution, security teams face difficult decisions about where to direct remediation efforts. Several Windows editions also reached end of support on 13 October, introducing further exposure for organisations still running unsupported systems. Effective prioritisation requires an understanding of active exploitation and business exposure, rather than relying on severity ratings alone.

This week’s Orpheus Weekly Intelligence Summary examines the vulnerabilities requiring attention, alongside active exploitation affecting Ivanti, Palo Alto Networks and Cisco technologies.
